Night Out

Last night Peter and I went on our first night out, without kids, for about 2 1/2 years! We went to Tori and Glenns wedding reception in Hartley Wintney. I will admit it was a bit strange being out without the girls, a bit strange being at a wedding party where we knew no-one (Peter knew the bride and the groom’s mother!), but today I felt tired but relaxed!

I had lined up a babysitter -Jess who we met when she was doing work experience at Sunshine’s nursery –although getting closer to going out time we were wondering if it was a good idea as Sunshine was a bit hyped up! But it all went well, Sunshine went to bed nicely and Rainbow stayed asleep. Needless to say, we will be making more of an effort to go out every now and again!

Spa Day

Although I have only just started back at work after a mammoth ten months off…it was time for a bit of me time and pampering! Peter got a new mini before Christmas, and along with that we got a guest pass to Pennyhill Park spa. So a few days before I had booked to go, I booked myself in for a treatment…so many to choose from but I decided on the Mala Mayi. Classed as an all encompassing cosseting treatment…full body exfoliation, mud treatment, head massage then back massage! Sounded fab…was even better!

I started the day as normal and dropped the girls at nursery and childminders and set off for my treat. Once I had found the spa and signed in, selected a locker I chose adventurine (the lockers were named after stones or grapes and other such like…) I should have gone with a grape variety as they were in the middle of the huge changing room! There was a swing chair in there to chill out on! Anyway, it felt a bit weird not actually having to do anything so I felt a bit lost! I went to gym to kill a bit of time before my treatment, then after about 30mins or so I felt that it must be time to get ready for the highlight…but I had enough time to check out the tepidarium in the thermal haven! Then off for my treatment…FANTASTIC although a little strange being smothered in mud and then wrapped up like a mummy…I had a bit of a chill out in a gel bed (not completely unlike my own bed!) then a spot of lunch…

After lunch I tried out most of the rooms in the thermal haven, the bubbly spa, the blue ballroom pool was lovely (especially as it was empty!)..Then all to soon it was time to come back to reality and to pick up the girls…

The Secret Life of a Slummy Mummy

I had actually started ‘The Kite Runner’, but as I had a long wait in the hospital a lighter novel was required…and the waiting room provided an opportunity -ok so probably not the most sanitary of environments to pick up a book…except that Frimley Park is one of the cleanest in the country! Anyway, the book did not disappoint. Funny with true to life observations, easy to read…just great! I have come to the conclusion that I am a slummy mummy who is endeavouring to be a domestic goddess!

Now back to ‘The Kite Runner’…

The Girl Who Played with Fire

Another “WOW!” for this one! Loved it…found out more about the mysterious heroines past…a tad more violent than the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but still gripping, engaging and un-put-down-able (even though it was rather heavy in hardback!) Would recommend!

I can’t believe I have to wait until 2010 for the final instalment!

Pirates

Sunshine decided that she was going to dress up as a girl pirate for World Book Day, and being Sunshine once she has made a decision that’s it! So we cited Peter Pan and Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book… Anyway, the pirate theme continued last night and as she tried to get a DVD on 5 minutes before bedtime, Peter said: “Daddy said no.” Sunshine said: “Arrrgh! Pirates say yes!”…
