Catch Up
It seems that not only neglecting to update Sunshine and Rainbow’s blogs, I have neglected mine too! And what is more my reading has certainly dropped off since….errrrm April! I’m sure I must have read a book since then….I know I started The Kite Runner but kind of lost interest as I couldn’t devote enough time to it. I have however done rather better with The Secret Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl (and after adding that link I didn’t realise there were two more…)I need to finish it soon though as I have the final part of The Millennium Trilogy sitting on the fire…
I decided to broaden my photography a bit and I’ve started a couple of projects on Flickr: a 365 days Self-portrait and and drop-in for a month picture a day. I thought it would be easy but it’s a bit trickier than I was anticipating…both getting a good photo, having the time to sort through, process and upload and do all the other things required as a mum!
It’s been a trying few days in the house of Allen, so as a respite for all Peter took Sunshine out this afternoon under the pretence of looking for getting a new vacuum. And Sunshine came home bearing gifts for me, Rainbow and Gran. Rainbow was bought a book (it had to be a board book otherwise she might rip the pages), Gran was bought a ‘breakable’ heart (I think it was made of some sort of soapstone) and I was bought a Homedics Spot foot massager in purple! Sunshine was at first drawn to the colour and when she quizzed Peter about what it was for decided that it was perfect for me as I had hurt my foot this morning by standing on a toy or some such thing…She only discovered that it vibrated under pressure in the checkout queue -to much amusement! Anyway, I really should be more careful about what I say in front of her…I just mentioned that we should keep it away from Rainbow so she doesn’t sit on it (there is another story here…). So Sunshine swiftly ran off with it and sat on it and…EEEK!…well, it’s away in the cupboard now! Sunshine decided it needed to go in the medicine cabinet…hmmm safest place I think!
Once I had found the spa and signed in, selected a locker I chose adventurine (the lockers were named after stones or grapes and other such like…) I should have gone with a grape variety as they were in the middle of the huge changing room! There was a swing chair in there to chill out on! Anyway, it felt a bit weird not actually having to do anything so I felt a bit lost! I went to gym to kill a bit of time before my treatment, then after about 30mins or so I felt that it must be time to get ready for the highlight…but I had enough time to check out the tepidarium in the thermal haven! Then off for my treatment…FANTASTIC although a little strange being smothered in mud and then wrapped up like a mummy…I had a bit of a chill out in a gel bed (not completely unlike my own bed!) then a spot of lunch…
After lunch I tried out most of the rooms in the thermal haven, the bubbly spa, the blue ballroom pool was lovely (especially as it was empty!)..Then all to soon it was time to come back to reality and to pick up the girls…
I had actually started ‘The Kite Runner’, but as I had a long wait in the hospital a lighter novel was required…and the waiting room provided an opportunity -ok so probably not the most sanitary of environments to pick up a book…except that Frimley Park is one of the cleanest in the country! Anyway, the book did not disappoint. Funny with true to life observations, easy to read…just great! I have come to the conclusion that I am a slummy mummy who is endeavouring to be a domestic goddess!
We decided that the Terramundi pot was to be opened today and Peter was reluctant to be traditional and smash the pot, or even to lever the top off. So out came the multi-grinding tool thing (which has probably only been used once before!) and a hole big enough to get the money out was made in the bottom of the pot.
As I already had the second book in the Millennium Trilogy by Steig Larsson, I had to get old of a copy of this book from somewhere...so I tried the library (as we are on a bit of mean-streak at the moment) and there was a HUGE waiting list, then BookMooch and it was on loads of wishlists and no copies available ANYWHERE in the world, so I managed to get hold of it for a bargain £1.91 using my Waterstones points (hooray! for loyalty cards!)
Fantastic! I think this was better than
I finished this today and I feel a bit cheated! Although, I don't think it was that great...I didn't care too much about the characters, and it was ok to read but the end was disappointing and woolly and a bit...well, bleuch. It will be sent on it's way as soon as possible!
Ever since we returned from Portugal, Sunshine has been a bit obsessed about wrapping up anything she can get her hands on!Sunshine and Peter went out for a spell this afternoon and Sunshine came back with an early birthday present for me!
